Energy inspection of ventilation and air conditioning systems
In Denmark, it is statutory for larger ventilation installations to undergo an energy inspection every five years.
This statutory requirement was implemented on the basis of the EU Building Directive and the Act to Promote Energy Savings in Buildings.
The objective of the inspection is to promote cost-effective savings and increase the energy efficiency of ventilation and air conditioning systems.
A ventilation system is covered by the scheme if the sum of the rating plate effects for the ventilation motors in injection and extraction is 5kW or more. Air conditioning systems are covered by the scheme if the rating plate effect of the compressor motor is 5kW or more.
Ventilation and air conditioning systems are to be inspected once every five years as a minimum. The scheme will be phased in over a period of five years where installations in large buildings will be inspected first.
The statutory energy inspection of ventilation and air conditioning systems includes registration of basic data on the installation, inspection of the operational state of the installation as well as a measurement programme. The absorbed power effects of ventilators and the volume flow, pressure and temperatures of the installation are measured. On the basis of these measurements, the installation’s energy efficiency is assessed, and advice and ideas on how to save energy are given. How much energy can be saved and the financial consequences of these savings are also stated. The owner/user of the installation receives a report with the results of the inspection.
The statutory inspection is to be carried out by an accredited inspection body.
