Production Industries – Industry and Agriculture – are
responsible for 26% of Danish Energy Consumption
Over a number of years, the production industries in Denmark have
managed to stabilise their energy consumption and maintain
considerable growth at the same time. The reason is that saving
energy makes sense – also from a financial point of view.
There are still considerable opportunities for companies to enhance
their energy efficiency on a profitable basis. Danish industry
itself estimates that Danish companies could, on average, and to
their financial advantage, reduce their energy bills by
approximately 15 per cent if they used energy more
efficiently.
Since 1996, energy consumption by Danish trade and industry has
been subject to CO2 and energy taxes with the introduction of the
Green Tax Package. This was introduced to increase the incentive
for trade and industry to use energy more efficiently. The revenue
is redirected to trade and industry, and energy-intensive companies
can get a tax rebate.
The Danish Energy Authority has started implementing various
initiatives to help companies reduce their energy consumption. A
number of tools have been prepared for the establishment of
energy management and energy efficient
design
