EU
In EU, the Danish Energy Agency participates in the work concerning workplace safety and health. This is done through the Danish Working Environment Auhtority in a coordinating committee with participation from the Danish Maritime Authority and the Danish Civil Aviation Administration. The Danish Working Environment Authority is represented in the Advisory Committee on Safety and Health at Work, which assists the Commission in the preparation and implementation of activities in the area of safety and health at work. Under the advisory committee there is a subcommittee, the Standing Working Party for Mining and Other Extractive Industries. The EU Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities chairs the Advisory Committee.
Many EU Directives regarding work and industrial safety are of importance for oil and gas exploration and production. The Danish Energy Agency ensures that the relevant requirements are implemented in Danish offshore safety and health regulations.
EU Directives of fundamental importance are:
Council Directive of 12 June 1989 on the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health of workers at work (89/391/EEC). (EEC Framework Directive)
