The Accident Investigation Commission
The Accident Investigation Commission investigates accidents and incidents pertaining to health and safety. The Accident Investigation Commission was set up pursuant to the Offshore Safety Act.
The Accident Investigation Commission carries out investigations in the event of major accidents that originate from offshore installations, their equipment or external factors that have caused death, serious injury to persons or serious damage to installations. Serious injury means injuries that are permanent as well as injuries that lead to a person being absent from work for more than five weeks.
In addition to this, the Danish Energy Agency can instruct the Accident Investigation Commission to investigate incidents that are deemed to be relevant for health and safety matters when offshore installations are used. This is stated in Executive Order No. 161 of 26 February 2009 on the tasks and powers of the Danish Energy Agency.
The Commission's rules of procedure are laid down in Executive Order No. 692 of 22 June 2006 on the Accident Investigation Commission for major accidents on offshore installations.
The Danish Energy Agency appoints the members of the Accident Investigation Commission pursuant to Executive Order No. 161 of 26 February 2009 on the tasks and powers of the Danish Energy Agency.
