A work-related disease is defined as a disease or illness arising as a result of work-related factors.
It may be difficult to establish whether a specific disease is attributable to work or other causes. A causal connection may be particularly difficult to demonstrate if a person has changed jobs several times.
The National Board of Industrial Injuries makes decisions determining whether a disease is work-related or not.
Reporting suspected or diagnosed work-related diseases
A doctor who suspects that a disease may be attributable to work on an offshore installation must notify the National Working Environment Authority or the National Board of Industrial Injuries. A notification form is available from the National Working Environment Authority or the Danish Energy Agency. The Danish Energy Agency will receive copies of any notifications concerning offshore installations.
Any claims for compensation must also be submitted to the National Board of Industrial Injuries.
The Danish Energy Agency uses the notifications to compile statistics on work-related diseases reported. The Danish Energy Agency prioritizes its supervision activities on the basis of these statistics and the individual notifications.
